Activity Centres for the over 50s

Providing day time activities and social events that enhance the quality of life for our over 50s residents.

Three activity centres with over 3000 members

Each of the district's following three activity centres provides and promotes facilities and services that enhance the quality of life for the over 50's residents of Basildon District.

A key objective of the activity centres is to develop and maintain a service for the over 50s that increasingly focuses on the promotion of well-being and independence, that is,

  • easy to access
  • customer focused
  • and aimed at tackling social exclusion.

The daily contact between members and staff can be a lifeline as daily contact prevents social isolation.

From Monday to Friday the Council's activity centres offer a range of day time activities and social events which give members the opportunity to make new friends, explore their creative side and develop new skills.

Activity centre membership is open to anyone over the age of 50 and total membership of the district's three activity centres is currently over 3000.

Each activity centre maintains a members committee which meets regularly to put forward suggestions for day trips and events and entertainment.
