In the News: A planning application is being considered to improve the infrastructure for 492 new homes in Basildon town centre

Basildon's Planning Committee will consider proposals for increased infrastructure to support a 492-home development in Basildon town centre, following their decision to give the go ahead to the housing scheme in February 2021.

The plans, being brought before the committee following representations by Essex County Council, would see additional funding for primary school places, a future opportunity for a new site for early years and childcare facilities, as well as more funding for post-16 education through the ongoing work with the Advice Store, apprenticeship provision and the economic development team, as part of the development's section 106 agreement. In addition, residents, communal spaces and commercial units will also benefit from superfast broadband.

The plans will see 492 new one and two-bed apartments built, by Orwell (Basildon) limited, between Market Square and Town Square in Basildon Town Centre.

The homes will be Build-to-Rent, for private rental rather than sold on the open market, with residents having access to communal roof gardens and communal workspaces.

The development includes retail/commercial space on the ground and part of the first floors with parking behind.
