In the News: Basildon Council secures full closure order on property

Basildon Council has successfully obtained a full closure order on a property, effectively prohibiting anyone from entering for the next three months.

A full closure order is a legal measure that restricts access to a property or part of it, including the resident. The council took this action after receiving repeated complaints from neighbours regarding nuisance behaviour, drug-related activity, and excessive noise.

On 29 April, council officers appeared before Basildon Magistrates' Court and were granted the closure order following ongoing reports of disruptive behaviour. The order prohibits any entry to the property unless specifically authorised by the council.

Cllr Kerry Smith, Cabinet Member for Law, Order & Enforcement, commented: "Issuing a closure order with the potential for a possession order is never a decision we make lightly. Everyone has the right to live peacefully in their own homes, free from disruptive and threatening behaviour from those who have no right to be there.

"Our officers have made every effort to work with the tenant, including referring them to support services, issuing warnings, and even implementing a partial closure order. However, the tenant failed to comply. As a result, they must face the consequences - a loss of their home, which will now be allocated to another deserving resident from our housing waiting list."

The full closure order prevents anyone from entering the property unless authorised by the council.
