In the News: Basildon residents encouraged to kickstart their fitness with 'Backside to Trackside'
Basildon residents are being encouraged to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle by joining the popular Backside to Trackside programme — a free, award-winning, nine-week fitness initiative designed to get people moving.
Led by professional coaches in a welcoming and supportive environment, each one-hour weekly session begins with a short educational talk, followed by progressive physical activity including walking, jogging, or running on the track at Basildon Sporting Village.
Participants of all fitness levels are welcome, and the programme culminates in a celebratory 5km fun run, giving everyone a chance to showcase their progress and enjoy their achievements together.
Councillor Jack Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Children & Young People, said:
"This programme is a fantastic way to begin your fitness journey in a friendly, motivating environment. It's not just about getting active — it's also a great opportunity to meet new people and build lasting healthy habits."
The next programme begins on Monday 13 May at Basildon Sporting Village, Cranes Farm Road, SS14 3GR.
