In the News: More improvements coming to council homes across Basildon
Homes across Basildon are set for some very good news as council tenants living in low EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) properties are set to get help from the council to reduce energy efficiency in their homes.
Eligible tenants are being written to and will receive the home energy efficiency upgrades free of charge. The cost of installing these energy efficiency upgrades will be met by the council.
The upgrades will make homes warmer and greener as the first phase will include installing improvements including solar panels, electric storage heaters, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and external wall insulation.
Cllr Adele Brown, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Infrastructure, said:
"We have already secured £16 million for council home repairs and maintenance and the additional money from the Government's Warm Homes grant will allow us to continue the hard work we are already doing to improve energy efficiency in our council homes.
"We will continue to ensure we provide decent homes for our tenants and this money will guarantee that we help to reduce fuel poverty, lower carbon emissions and bring down energy bills for our tenants."
The money, from the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund will be used to improve energy efficiency in council homes with energy performance ratings D and below and help take households out of fuel poverty.
Eligible tenants will receive the home energy efficiency upgrades free of charge.
