Basildon Council Supports National Stalking Awareness Week

Basildon Council is proud to support National Stalking Awareness Week, taking place from 22 to 25 April, reinforcing its commitment to keeping our borough safe for everyone.

Did you know?

·         1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men will experience stalking in their lifetime.

·         Stalking isn't always physical — it can include unwanted messagesdigital harassment, and being constantly watched or followed.

·         It's not flattering. It's not romantic. It's frightening — and illegal.

Councillor Melissa McGeorge, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said:

"Stalking is a serious crime with devastating, long-term effects on victims. This week, we stand in solidarity with survivors to raise awareness and challenge the behaviours that allow stalking to persist.

National Stalking Awareness Week is an important reminder of the harm stalking causes to individuals, families, and communities — and the importance of speaking up."
