In the news: Council welcomes award for warm homes funding

The Leader of Basildon Council has welcomed the news that the Government has awarded a provisional allocation of just over £9.6m to help deliver warm homes across the borough.

The money, from the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund will be used to improve energy efficiency in council homes with energy performance ratings below C and help take many households out of fuel poverty.

The upgrades will make homes warmer and greener by installing green technology such as cavity walls or loft installation, external wall insulation, heat pumps and solar panels.

Leader of Basildon Council, Cllr Gavin Callaghan, welcoming the Government's announcement, said:"We have already secured £16 million for council home repairs and maintenance and this money will allow us to continue the hard work we are already doing to improve energy efficiency in our council homes.

"We will continue to ensure we provide decent homes for our tenants and this money will guarantee that we help to reduce fuel poverty, lower carbon emissions and bring down energy bills for our tenants."

Eligible tenants will receive the home energy efficiency upgrades free of charge. The cost of installing these energy efficiency upgrades assessed and delivered by the council.
