Walking Football for Men Affected by Prostate Cancer

We're excited to launch a new Walking Football initiative specifically for men aged 40 and over who have experienced prostate cancer.

Walking football is a slower-paced, low-impact version of the game, making it ideal for those looking to reintroduce physical activity into their lives safely and gradually. It offers a fantastic way to:

  • support recovery,
  • build friendships,
  • stay active, and
  • help raise awareness.

All in a supportive team-based setting.

We're currently recruiting players to join a newly formed Walking Football Team for men with experience of prostate cancer. This team will take on the Billericay Town Walking Football Team in a friendly match, set to take place before a men's first team fixture at this year's Fella's Fair

Be part of something meaningful and take to the pitch for a special match at this year's Fella's Fair community event.

Objectives of the Walking Football Programme

  • Promote physical activity as part of post-cancer recovery.
  • Foster peer support and community through team participation.
  • Encourage health discussions in a relaxed, social setting.
  • Boost engagement in men's health services via sport and shared experiences.

The Fella's Fair is a men's health event designed to inform, empower, and engage. Bringing together a wide range of charities and organisations, the fair focuses on improving men's health and well being through access to expert advice, health resources, and community support.

Organised by Healthwatch Essex and proudly supported by Prostate Cancer UK, the event creates a relaxed, welcoming environment where men can learn more about key health issues and take positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

By hosting the fair at venues that naturally attract male audiences, the aim is to reduce stigma, spark conversations, and make vital health information more accessible.
