Public Consultation - Draft Statement of Community Involvement - Third Revision 2019

SCI Update - December 2019

The Draft Statement of Community Involvement - Third Revision was the subject of consultation from Thursday 1st August 2019 until Thursday 12th September 2019. Consultation responses are currently being processed. The Council will consider all responses received. Where necessary, changes will be made to the document to take into account the comments received. The final SCI document is expected to be adopted by the Council in 2020.

Public Consultation - August/September 2019

Every Local Planning Authority in England is legally required to prepare and keep up to date a 'Statement of Community Involvement' (SCI) which sets out how it intends to involve and consult the public, businesses and special interest groups in determining planning applications, preparing Local Plans, and enforcing planning rules.

Basildon Borough Council recently consulted on a Draft Statement of Community Involvement, which will update the current document adopted by the Council in July 2016. The changes to the SCI take account of the provisions in the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017, which requires the SCI to cover policies for giving advice or assistance on proposals for the making or modification of neighbourhood plans. Information explaining how and for what purposes the Council processes personal data is also now included within the new SCI, following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018.

The updated SCI also takes account of other changes to the planning system including the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) 2019, and the Town & Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Amendment Regulations 2017.

Public Consultation which ran from Thursday 1st August 2019 to 5pm on Thursday 12th September 2019 has now closed.
