In the news: Ten new council homes for Basildon residents at Valerie House

The building of ten new council homes has been complete, ready for Basildon residents on the council's housing register to move into.

Known as Valerie House, the Vange development has repurposed a disused former community hall to create ten new spacious, modern flats. The complex features seven one-bedroom flats and three two-bedroom homes.

Each property has allocated parking within the development, as well as electric charging points. The scheme has also received Design Gold Standard by Essex Police, for the standard of safety and security features of the homes and the block.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Estate Renewal, Councillor Andrew Schrader, said: " The tenants who will be moving into these homes next week should be really excited. I visited them earlier this week and they are fantastic - both in the exterior appearance of the build, and certainly in terms of each of their interiors.

"All the homes exceed national space standards and that's clear to see - they are so spacious, and the light coming into the properties from the feature windows is a really attractive addition.

"This is a brilliant scheme that I'm certainly proud of - it will deliver much needed Basildon homes for Basildon people."
