In the news: Call for Sites launched as next step in development of local plan for Basildon
Residents, landowners and businesses are encouraged to share details of sites that could be suitable for future development, as preparations continue on a new local plan for Basildon Borough.
Basildon Borough Council is preparing a new local plan which will set out the overall planning framework to support growth and development in the borough. It will contain a Spatial Strategy which identifies locations for delivering strategic development needs such as housing, employment, retail, leisure, and infrastructure.
The Council is carrying out a focussed Call for Sites, for the Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) and Brownfield Land Register (BLR), to seek additional land within the borough which could be suitable for delivering the strategic development needs within the new Local Plan.
The Government sets out the requirements to identify land that is suitable, available and achievable for housing and economic development.
A site is considered suitable if it would provide an appropriate location for development; available if, on the best information available, there is confidence that there are no legal or ownership impediments to development; and achievable where there is a reasonable prospect of the land being developed.
Cllr Richard Moore, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Infrastructure, said: "The Call for Sites is an important step in the council's work towards a new local plan for Basildon Borough. This process helps us identify all of the land that could be appropriate for development over the next 15-20 years.
"We would, of course, encourage urban and brownfield land to be put forward in the first instance, but we would welcome the submission of any parcels of land within Basildon Borough for technical consideration."
Full details on the Call for Sites, including submission forms can be found on the council's website:

The Call for Sites will be open from Wednesday 19 October to Wednesday 14 December 2022.
