In the news: Temporary changes to collection days over festive period
Waste and recycling collections will carry on throughout the Christmas and New Year period with temporary changes to collection days.
Collections will resume on 29 December, with refuse and recycling teams working on Saturdays to make up for Bank Holidays. Collection days return to normal from the week commencing Monday 24 January 2022.
All households across the borough have been sent a leaflet with the Christmas and New Year calendar in full, plus lots of useful recycling information.
Chairman of the Leisure and Environment Committee Councillor Craig Rimmer said: "We've worked hard to ensure we can run the best possible service for residents over the Christmas and New Year period. I want to say a huge thank you to our refuse crews for their tireless work this year, and for over the festive period to come.
"I'm sure there will be plenty of wrapping paper getting ripped open over the next few days - please continue to support our efforts by putting non-foil wrapping paper in a pink sack and putting it out on your revised collection day. If you have a real Christmas tree to get rid of - leave it out with your green bin on collections from 4 January - and they will be given a second life as compost.
"But most importantly of all - Merry Christmas to all our residents and I hope you have a festive period full of joy."
Real Christmas Trees can be left out for collection alongside green bins on revised collection days from 4 January. All decorations, as well as any pots or stands, should be removed.
Full information about when your next collection day is and what's being collected is available on the handy 'Our Streets Basildon' app, which can be downloaded on the App Store or Google Play. Alternatively, you can find out when your next collection day is on our website at Where I Live
