Basildon Council provides specialist housing for older tenants in 47 Sheltered Housing schemes, of which 3 are leaseholder schemes.

Sheltered Housing provides older residents with a comfortable, manageable and secure home of their own; preserving their privacy, dignity and independence, whilst giving them ready access to additional support when they need it.

However, it should be realised that sheltered housing is not intended, and not designed, to provide nursing care.
