Councillors met representatives from George Hurd Activity Centre, Pitsea Activity Centre and Laindon Activity Centre on Monday 12 August to mark the allocation of grant funding totalling £7,000.

These projects were identified by both the Housing and Communities Committee and the Neighbourhood and Public Spaces Committee.

  • George Hurd Activity Centre was awarded £3,000
  • Pitsea Activity Centre was awarded £2,000
  • Laindon Activity Centre was awarded £2,000

The grants will be used to fund activities at each of the centres, as well as new equipment and support with membership fees and administration.

"These groups are a lifeline to many senior citizens in the borough," said Cllr Kerry Smith, Chairman of the Housing and Communities Committee."They provide opportunities for elderly residents to meet, take part in activities and socialise. It is vital that we continue to support these groups and I am delighted we have been able to recognise the George Hurd, Pitsea and Laindon Activity Centres in one of the first funding decisions of the Housing and Communities Committee this year."
