Introduction and Overview

Basildon Council, as a social landlord, has a statutory duty under Section 105 of the Housing Act 1985 to consult secure tenants who are likely to be substantially affected by a matter of housing management. This may include a new programme of maintenance, improvement or re-development or a change in the practice or policy of the Council relating to housing.

The Council has a long history of positive resident involvement and tenants and leaseholders have provided invaluable feedback that has been used to shape policies, strategies and service delivery over a number of years.

We have recently revised the way in which we work with residents to ensure their views and feedback are always considered. This is achieved through the operation of a series of Tenant and Leaseholder Panels, Groups and Forums.

Full information on how Basildon Council tenants and leaseholders can be involved can be found on the following pages:

The Resident Compact

The Resident Compact is an agreement setting out Basildon Council's arrangements for consulting and involving its tenants and leaseholders on the services we provide and the policy decisions we make.
