Food Safety - Safe Summer Food Advice

But did you know that you might need to think harder about food safety in the summer months? Research shows there are an estimated one million cases of food poisoning every year, with numbers increasing in the warmer months. This indicates that people could be putting themselves and their families at risk of food poisoning through not following the 4Cs of food hygiene.

The 4Cs of food hygiene are:

  • Chilling,
  • Cooking,
  • Cleaning
  • and avoiding Cross-contamination.

If you've ever had food poisoning, you'll know how unpleasant it can be, even for a fit and healthy person. For children, people already in ill-health and older people, food poisoning can have serious, and sometimes even deadly, consequences. It's important to protect your loved ones from foodborne illness this summer by handling food safely when eating outdoors. It's the little things you do that can help to stop you and your family becoming unwell.
