The purpose of the Building Control Service provided by Basildon District Council is to enable businesses, home owners, designers and builders to comply with the statutory Building Regulations.
Building Regulations exist to ensure the health and safety of people in and around all types of buildings (i.e. domestic, commercial and industrial).They also provide for energy conservation, and for access and facilities for disabled people.
It is our aim to make the process of complying with Building Regulations as easy and straight forward as possible.

If you are planning an extension to your property or would like to construct a new building, you will need to check the location of the public sewers with the Anglian Water Authority.
Should you find that there is a public sewer located on or near to your proposed development or property extension, it may be possible to build over the sewer (see Section 18 Building Act 1984). This will be subject to approval by the Anglian Water Authority
