Recycling Video - Your Pink Sack Journey

A short film charting the journey of a plastic milk bottle from your kitchen on to the recycling process and beyond.

This short film shows the whole process and journey your pink sacks take when they are recycled by showing what plastic bottles can be recycled into.

Filming took place in the Basildon District, Marks and Spencer in Basildon Town Centre and Thetford, Norfolk. The film was produced by local production house 3ative (www.3ative.com).

This film is used to teach school children across the Basildon District about the benefits of recycling and to help schools achieve eco-schools status. It is also screened in five one-minute segments on community TV screens throughout the Basildon District.

The following is the transcript for the YouTube Video, Recycling - Your Pink Sack Journey.

Beginning.

Schoolboy walks into the kitchen and hands the empty carton to his mum who washes the carton in the sink. Display caption, "Please rinse out your food containers".

Mum puts down some cardboard next to the kitchen bin and a plastic bottle in the pink sack bin. Display caption, "70% of household waste can be recycled!".

Recycling operatives stand outside a home with pink sack waiting for recycling vehicle as it appears on screen.

Mum puts pink sack in the hallway where schoolboy picks it up and walks to the front door.

Recycling operative outside move to put pink sacks in the back of the recycling vehicle.

Animation shows the journey the vehicle takes from Basildon to the Material Sorting Facility in Thetford, Norfolk. Display caption, "making materials from new!".

Vehicle reverses into an area of the sorting facility in Thetford where other pink sacks are stored. Display caption, "Part Three: Materials Sorting Facility".

Vehicle offloads its pink sacks cargo. Display caption, "The large vehicle unloads...".

Excavator picks up pink sacks and empties load into a large container with a conveyer belt. Display caption, "Pink sack are then unloaded in to bag splitter...".

Recycling operative empties a pink sack on the conveyer belt. An extractor is shown on screen which sucks up the discarded pinks sack once the operative has emptied it. Operative separates materials on the conveyer belt by hand. Display caption, "Card, paper and plastics are sorted by hand".
