LDF - Development Plan Documents (DPDs).

The documents that will set out Basildon Council's local planning policy and eventually replace the Adopted Local Plan (1998).

Basildon Council's Local Development Framework (LDF) can best be described as a folder of documents that will set out the Council's local planning policy and eventually replace the Adopted Local Plan (1998).

The LDF will include the following documents: 

  • The Local Development Scheme
  • The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
  • The Strategic Environmental Assessment & Sustainability Appraisal

plus the following four Development Plan Documents also known as DPDs which are currently being prepared for Basildon District,

  • The Core Strategy DPD- this document will be the Council's strategic policy setting out long-term vision for future development and environmental protection in the District until 2021. It will link with the EERA Regional Spatial Strategy and The Basildon District Community Strategy.
  • The Development Control Policies DPD - this document will set out the detailed policies by which planning applications will be assessed.
  • The Gypsies and Travellers DPD - this document will set out the Council's planning policies for the provision of Gypsy and Traveller sites in the District.
  • The Site Allocations DPD - this document will allocate specific land for development, in accordance with the Core Strategy. It will designate land for housing, employment, retail and recreational uses.

Each DPD will be subject to stakeholder engagement, public participation, Sustainability Appraisal, and Examination in Public (EiP) before it is adopted.
