2007 Call for Sites - Schedule of Sites published

In 2007, as part of the process of preparing the Local Development Framework (LDF - which will guide development within the District over the next 15 years), Basildon Council conducted a Call for Sites exercise which invited landowners and developers to propose land they felt was suitable for future development.

As a result 270 sites, which might possibly be suitable for future development, have been proposed.

About 1,300 hectares (3,200 acres) of land has been proposed for development. To put this into context, this is about four times the amount of land that might be needed for future housing development, according to the latest East of England Plan.

It is important to understand that there is absolutely no guarantee at all, that any of these proposed sites will be approved for development in the finalised Local Development Framework (LDF)

Each of the proposed sites will be assessed and subjected to environmental screening, after which only the most appropriate and realistic sites will be selected for possible inclusion in the LDF.

Land owned by Basildon Council

The inclusion of proposed sites owned by Basildon Council does not mean that a decision has been taken by the Council to sell or redevelop any of these sites, nor has any decision been taken to change current planning policy.

Land owned by Basildon Council will be assessed on environmental, social, economic and infrastructure grounds with the same rigour as all the other proposed sites.

The assessment process is carried out openly and independently, regardless of who owns the land or of Basildon Council's role as a planning decision maker.

Future opportunities for public consultation

Any of the proposed sites which after assessment go on to be selected by Basildon Council as a future location for development to be included in the final LDF, will be the subject of an open public consultation, giving local residents the opportunity to support or object to proposed development.

Examining the Schedule of Submissions and accompanying maps

We recommend looking the Schedule of Submissions first. It sets out the sites by Site Reference Number (e.g. CFS 001) and Address, etc. The Map Reference column indicates which map(s) you must look at to see the site's location and boundary.

Sites displayed on the maps are labelled with a unique Site Reference Number. In most cases this is either within or next to the site itself.
