The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a responsibility on Basildon Council to provide advice to businesses and voluntary organisations which will help them to survive a major incident.

The time spent however, is a worthwhile investment that will ensure the safety and protection of your staff and increase the likelihood of your business surviving a crisis or business interruption.

Basildon Council's Business Continuity Service can provide advice to businesses and voluntary organisations within the Borough

The Buncefield Oil Tank Fire 2005 left over 400 businesses unable to use their premises, leaving 25,000 employees either unable to work or working from alternative locations. The local chamber of commerce warned that the explosion could eventually cost business and local authorities £1 billion. There have been more than 100 official redundancies since December 2005.
