Sustainable Community Strategy
A Sustainable Community Strategy is a long-term strategy to promote the environmental, social and economic well being of an area. You can find more information on the LSP page of the Department of Communities and Local Government website.
The Government has asked every area of the country to prepare a Community Strategy. This strategy sets out a vision for the District, together with a programme of actions and targets, all aimed at addressing various community issues. The strategy is intended to make a real improvement to local quality of life over time and provide a framework for all other local plans and programmes.
Our original 2001 community strategy has recently been replaced with the new Sustainable Community Strategy 2008 - 2033, which focuses on addressing the following eight strategic objectives:
1. Developing a Prosperous Economy
2. Promoting Community Safety
3. Providing Homes for the Future
4. Maintaining a Clean & Sustainable Environment
5. Improving Health & Wellbeing
6. Raising Educational Achievement
7. Promoting Inclusive Communities
8. Develop an effective transport system
3 Year Medium Term Delivery Plans 2008 - 2011
To coincide with the Basildon Sustainable Community Strategy 2008 -2033, Basildon District LSP is in the process of developing 3 Year Medium Term Delivery Plans, which will support the LSP to deliver on our eight strategic objectives. This document is currently being drafted and will be published on this website when the LSP has established thematic partnerships to cover each of the eight priority areas.
Local Area Agreement
Our Local Area Agreement (LAA) sets out the priorities for the local area and is agreed between central government, Essex Partnership, Basildon District LSP and other key partners. LAAs simplify some central funding, help join up public services more effectively and allow greater flexibility for local solutions to local issues.
Our current Local Area Agrement is a three-year delivery plan for the original Community Strategy and sets out:-
- Targets to be achieved in the next three years - based on national and local priorities
- Partnership and performance management arrangements to achieve those targets.
Liberating Potential - The Essex Local Area Agreement 2008-2011
Essex Partnership is currently in the process of developing the new Local Area Agreement ‘Liberating Potential’. This is being heavily consulted on with all District LSPs and partner agencies across Essex, and Basildon will be finalising priorities, targets and indicators by June 2008.
