Football Development Centre
The Centre has been put into place for those players we feel are of above average ability, to come along and work with players of a similar standard.
Players work in an environment that aids their progression and helps them to achieve their highest possible level of performance. Should we feel the players have reached a certain level, they can be recommended to a School of Excellence or Academy.
Players who attend the Development Centre are by invitation only and have taken part in one of the Football Development Schemes activities in the past.
The Football Development Centre is at the top of our pyramid structure and hopefully gives all players who are just starting out in football, or on one our other programmes a target to strive for if they so wish.

Football Development Scheme
The Football Development Scheme was put into place in 1996 to bring professional coaching to those who wish to take part in the sport at a reasonable cost.
The scheme has received an official accreditation from the Essex County Football Association for its structure and management and for the work it does in the District. It is a scheme which is unique to the county.
All coaches who work on Schemes activities are FA / UEFA Qualified, members of the Football Association Coaches Association, and have attended FA Child Protection Courses.
School Coaching
This is a 5-week program that involves a Football Development coach coming to your school and delivering a structured course.
Working with both boys and girls, the coach will deal with all aspects of football, including passing, control, dribbling, shooting, running with the ball, turning with the ball and many more tips.
Our aim is to help promote a healthy lifestyle, enjoyment and provide a foundation for personal development and a future participation in sport. The coaching can be very flexible and caters for all ages and abilities.
Number of participants - minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 per course.
All children will receive a certificate of attendance
Soccer School
In every school holiday throughout the year the Football Development Scheme hold Soccer Schools at various venues around the District in Basildon, Wickford and Billericay, for boys and girls aged between 6 - 14. Some of the courses held are for 4 days and some are for 2 days.
During these soccer schools the children will work on a range of topics to help them improve their game.
The sessions are made to be both fun and educational, teaching youngsters new skills or developing existing ones and helping them to gain a far better understanding of the game they love.
The children spend a great deal of time working individually with the ball on various exercises, as they will be more competent the more they have the ball at their feet, and as a result will be more confident.
The emphasis as with all of our activities is to work on personal development.
Course Outline:
Morning Sessions
- Players work on skills and techniques in all aspects of the game, plus taking part in various competitions, including dribbling, shooting and penalties.
Afternoon Sessions
- The players are put into teams within their age groups to play in a Mini World Cup, the idea is for the children to try and put into practice the skills they have been working on in the morning.
- All children taking part in the soccer schools receive a certificate of attendance and the competition winners, Mini World Cup winners and runners up will receive medals.
- The soccer schools run from 10:00am - 3:00pm daily, children should bring packed lunch and refreshments.
- Parent or guardians should take into consideration the weather and send the children with appropriate clothing and sun protection if necessary.
After School Clubs.
Clubs are held at Markhams Chase Leisure centre in Laindon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Each session runs from 4:00pm - 5.00pm.
The aim of these sessions is to progress the children, from those who may be just starting to play football up to an intermediate stage where the coaching will become more structured, once their ability allows them to do so.
The sessions are fun and enjoyable and also work to provide children with a healthy lifestyle for their future participation in sport.
For more details on these sessions contact Markhams Chase on 01268 410126.
Girls Football
With girls and women’s football being the fastest growing team sport in the country we felt that it was important for us to develop and support opportunities in the District.
We feel that we have an important role to play, ensuring that girls are given an equal opportunity to take part in our national game.
The Scheme first became involved by holding a football awareness day in 1999 as part of National Awareness week for girls and women’s football, which was set up by the Football Association.
With girls football becoming ever more popular we have held girls coaching sessions at a number of schools in Basildon.
We also hold "Girls Only" soccer schools which have been very successful.
Through our coaching within the schools it became apparent that a lot of girls would like to become more involved in playing football. With the introduction of Girls Schools of Excellence at many professional football clubs there are just as many opportunities for them to progress in the sport.
