All of the sports centres and swimming pools offer a wide range of sports coaching and swimming lesson programmes.

These include sessions for beginners and improvers, and most utilise programmes developed by the relevant sports governing bodies. Courses run various times of the year.

Development
The Sports Development team works with National Governing Bodies of Sport, Regional sports organisations, schools and local clubs to give every person within the District the opportunity to attain and improve their individual sports skills and to allow them to develop to their full potential, whether it be learning a new skill or competing at national or international level.

Sports Development involves a great deal of work with primary and secondary schools, and community groups. Current sports include: Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Rugby and Tennis.

In partnership with governing bodies of sport and other sporting agencies coach education courses are organised for a variety of sports and related subjects from football and netball to "child protection" and "managing club finances".

The Team are available in an advisory role for schools, clubs and organisations.

For assisting with development of training plans, advice on funding opportunities, coach education, etc.

The Sports Development Team also co-ordinate the local delivery of national initiatives including the National Junior Sport Programme, Active Sports and the Essex Youth Games.
