from April 2005

Since April 2005
- Engineering & Highways maintenance has become the responsibility of Essex County Council's newly created Highways & Transportation Service

Since April 2005 Basildon District Council has ceased being the Highways Agency for Essex County Council.

This means that Basildon Council's Highways staff have now transferred to Essex County Council and are based in new offices in Basildon's Festival Business Park.

All transportation and highway services for the Basildon, Castle Point and the Rochford Districts will now be managed from the new office.

The new office is now responsible for the following throughout the Basildon District:
  • Public roads, footways, footpaths, cycleways and public rights of way
  • Highway retaining walls and walls providing a safety barrier - Report Problems Online Feedback Form Icon
  • Street lighting Maintenance and improvements - Report Problems Online Feedback Form Icon
  • Gritting roads and snow clearance
  • Permits to plant on highway land
  • Vehicle crossings
  • Investigating insurance claims
  • Issue of builder's skip licences
  • Road Safety
  • Private Development & Road Adoptions
  • Traffic Management

Since April 2005 - Still the responsibility of Basildon Council


From April 2005 Basildon Council are responsible for maintenance of street lighting, footways, footpaths, cycle-ways etc, in areas owned by the Council, amongst which are the following:
  • Basildon Town Centre
  • Lake Meadows
  • Wickford Memorial Park
  • Great Berry Open Space
  • Billericay Cemetery
  • Pitsea Cemetery

From April 2005 Basildon Council are also responsible for road, naming, postal number and maintenance of all to the District's street furniture, for example litter bins, benches and local signs etc. All broken street furniture can be reported online.
