Community development is all about working with the community to improve the quality of life of people within the District, especially those who are disadvantaged or at risk of isolation.
Public involvement is extremely important to the success of community regeneration, so here at Basildon District Council, our team of Community Development Officers are working to build closer links with the public and have some exciting projects underway.
Our team of Community Development Officers work to redress the balance between the District’s disadvantaged communities and the rest of the country. We believe that no-one should be unable to contribute to their community because of where they live or what their personal circumstances are.
By using the power of partnership working, we work to refocus key public services in disadvantaged areas to drive change. By working to refocus mainstream public services for more effective delivery, we can improve opportunities and quality of life for the District’s residents.
We work with our partners to promote:
- Stronger inclusion
- lower unemployment
- less crime
- better health
- improved skills
- better housing
- better physical environment
The involvement of local communities is central to our community development initiatives. We work to encourage community participation and consultation and support the work of Community Forums, local voluntary groups and Town and Parish Councils.
