Arts Venues
The Fold, Billericay - Based in the former Quilters School, "The Fold "is the well established base for the Billericay Arts Association and hosts a number of local club activities and provides an entertainment programme of both amateur and professional concerts, plays, films, exhibitions and lectures.

Towngate Theatre, Basildon - Opened by the actress Kate O ’Mara on 23rd April 1988,and built to replace a former temporary arts Centre, the Towngate Theatre in Basildon Town Centre comprises of a versatile auditorium which can seat 550 in traditional theatre style or almost 800 on a flat floor layout.

This is supported by the Mirren Studio, named after actress Helen Mirren, which can seat 180 as a studio theatre for smaller productions.

Arts Events
Working very closely with local artists and organisations a range of projects are developed, which have included
  • Made In Britain Festival at Basildon Library - celebrating black and Asian writers living in Britain,
  • Youth drama workshops,
  • Community play, arts exhibitions,
  • Visual arts competition celebrating artistic endeavours in all categories of art within the district,
  • Series of week long youth drama workshops during the school half-terms,
  • Summer activities programme involving a group of artists visiting the various estates within the district to work with local children and
  • National Tree Week, which looks at ways to make people
