Latest News:

A public consultation has been undertaken in order to allow district residents and others to have their say regarding the Proposed Management Plan.

The consultation period ended on 15th February 2008.

The results from the public survey are currently being examined.

The opinions and suggestions made in the public survey will be given consideration in the final version of the new Management Plan for Queens Park Country Park and Hannakins Meadow which will be published here in early summer 2008.


The need for a plan to manage Queens Park & Hannakins Meadow.

The main reasons for developing the Plan are:
  • To conserve the site for the future and to ensure continuity of management over time
  • To ensure that future management is aligned with local strategies and policies
  • To enable Basildon Council to attract external funding for maintenance and development of the site
  • To ensure continuity of management over time and conserve the site for the future
  • To help promote and publicise the wildlife and recreational value of the site more widely
The main proposed changes to the Park are as follows:
  • A new footpath linking Hannakins Meadow to Queens Parks Country Park to avoid crossing Rosebay Avenue.
  • Create picnic areas at Hannakins Meadow and Queens Park Country Park.
  • Install new signs and information boards showing the site layout and main routes.
  • Selective felling of trees in plantation shelter belts to create glades and allow light onto the woodland floor.
  • Improve general access to and around the park to ensure that people of all abilities can access the site where possible.
  • Create a leaflet with a site map to promote the site and walking as part of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Introduce grazing to Hannakins Meadow to increase its value for wildlife.
  • Have the site designated a Local Nature Reserve.
  • Maintain the site at a high standard to achieve Green Flag status.
