Educational Visit

Day Visits for Schools
The choice of activities to visiting school groups is wide and varied, and can be tailor-made to suit any needs.

From pond-dipping to orienteering, mini-beasting to seasonal tours. Craft topics, such as making corn dollies, are also offered and two well appointed classrooms mean that topics can be covered whatever the weather.

All topics are curriculum related, and are adapted for different age groups, and all necessary equipment is supplied by the educational team. Visits can be of half day and full day duration, and each class will have a member of the education team to direct all activities.

For much of the year, and depending on the particular activities chosen, as many as three classes per day can be catered for. Indoor lunch facilities are available at Wat Tyler Country Park and there is adequate parking for coaches.

The Motor-boat Museum is on site and group visits can be arranged to this fascinating collection.

Other Non-Residential
Evening and weekend visits can be arranged for either schools or youth groups. There are many opportunities during school holidays for children to attend various activities, and during the Autumn and Winter months our Night Safaris are very popular.

Information on holiday events is available approximately one month before the holiday period.

Residential Centre
Wat Tyler Country Park provides an ideal setting for a school or youth group holiday.

Fully equipped residential centre has two dormitories, each sleeping sixteen, with en- suite showers and toilets. Two smaller rooms, a two bed with shower and toilet, and a four bed room. All beds are bunk style. A large common/dining room and fully equipped kitchen, with a constant supply of hot water. Smoke detectors are installed in all rooms and the building complies fully with Fire, Health and Safety Regulations.

School Residential visits from April to July are usually of three-day duration. Content can be designed to link with school topics. Full consultation between the Education Team and class teachers to make sure we can fulfil the schools requirements. Visit includes all food and activities organised by the team.

Autumn residential can also be arranged and for two-day visits during the winter months there are special reductions on offer.

Residential Visits
Many groups such as Brownies, Guides and Cubs have found the centre to be an ideal place for pack holidays. These can be arranged as weekend visits or during holiday periods.

Although these visits are self-catering in every way, the Education Team can organise a wide range of day- time or evening activities to suit and there is a cafe in the park that offers meals throughout the day.

Educational Visits to Norsey Wood
Schools can arrange half day or full day visits to this beautiful and historic woodland. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) covering 165 acres (66 hectares).

A range of activities similar to those at Wat Tyler Country Park are offered and the reserve is especially good for GCSE and A-Level groups. Holiday activities operate during the summer break, run by the Education Team.

The Information Centre on site has toilets and hand-washing facilities.

Educational Visits to The Wick
The Wick Country Park at Wickford is a newly founded country park with developing habitats.

A new information centre with educational facilities was completed in 2002. It offers a wide range of formal and informal education activities for all ages.
