Why Recycle?
We have all heard about global warming, pollution, endangered animals and everything else that tells us our environment is in danger of changing for the worse but what does it really mean for us and how we live our lives?
Recycling has become an important way for people all over the world to help preserve our environment as we know it, for us and future generations.
The benefits of recycling include:
- Helping the environment by saving precious natural resources, such as oil and metals and also helps to reduce air and water pollution.
- Using less energy and resources than it takes to make a product from scratch.
- Tips across the country are running out of space and recycling is an effective alternative for dealing with the rubbish.
- Recycling creates new jobs and employment across the district.

What can you do?
Compost it!
About 20% of what we throw away breaks down into compostable material known as biodegradable waste. This material is often kitchen scraps or green garden waste.
When thrown out and taken to a rubbish tip, it breaks down and creates a methane gas. Methane gas is a powerful 'Green House Gas', which causes environmental problems.
It also creates 'leachate', a poisonous liquid that can leach into our streams and rivers.
By simply composting the small amount of biodegradable waste at home, in your own composter you will be helping to reduce a significant environmental problem.
You can make your own home composter or buy one at a subsidised price, from Original Organics at £9 plus £3 delivery to your door.
Call Original Organics on 01884 841515, and mention you are part of the Essex Home Compost Scheme in order to secure a subsidised price bin.
Buy Recycled
Here's how you can be a Green purchaser, look for products that are made from recycled materials. This will help to stimulate the markets and promote the collection of them.
The types of products which contain recycled materials include kitchen rolls, tissues, refuse sacks, toilet rolls, black rubbish sacks, writing paper & envelopes, even some fleeces & hats are made from recycled plastic bottles.
