The law on the boarding of animals as a business currently only relates to cats and dogs, not to any other type of pet. Anyone boarding cats or dogs for financial gain must be licensed by Basildon Council's Environmental Health Services.

We regularly inspect these licensed premises in company with the Council’s veterinary officer. To ensure that the animals are cared for properly and that the proprietors are fit to look after animals.

Licensing of small-scale commercial animal boarding in a domestic home.
This is becoming increasingly popular with individuals boarding animals in their own homes. In recognition of this we have begun issuing domestic boarding licenses.
