Benefit fraud costs millions of pounds every year and it is those who are in real need who are most affected. Every time a false claim is made, a person in need goes without and it is because of this the Government is getting tough on Benefit Fraud!


Basildon District Council’s role is to try and stop fraud from taking place, catch those who are making false claims and reducing the number of fraudulent claims made each year. But to do this we need the help of the community.

If you suspect someone you know of making inappropriate benefit claims we need you to contact us. You can remain completely anonymous if you wish but if you do want to give us your details they will remain strictly confidential.

What Happens Next?
Once a suspected fraud is reported to us, the information is used to investigate if benefits are being correctly paid to the person nominated.

If there is evidence of Benefit Fraud taking place we will take the appropriate action, which usually involves prosecution and attempting to retrieve the money taken.

At no point in this process will your name or details be needed or used.
